As part of its rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council, Estonia will hold the first-ever formal meeting on cyber security on Tuesday, June 29.

The sitting will be chaired by Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and the Security Council will be briefed by the UN Deputy Secretary General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu.

Cyber security is one of the main priorities of Estonia's membership in the UN Security Council. In order to ensure international security, all current threats, including those originating in the cyber space, must be taken into consideration.

The objective of the sitting to be held in the Security Council is to reassert that the existing international law and norms for responsible state behavior also apply in the cyber space. The United Nations has also agreed on a global cyber stability framework, which Estonia helped establish.
